Our perfect day in Salzburg

Andrea and Marius Donhauser describe their perfect day in Mozart´s home town. With cultural and culinary tipps they guide you through their wonderful city of Salzburg!

First-class delights

Our perfect day starts with a breakfast buffet at our hotel featuring regional products and specialties. Afterwards, we recommend a stroll along Salzach River, with a stop at photo hotspot Müllnersteg, toward Mirabell Palace with its picturesque garden. After a short visit of Mozart’s house, cross the Salzach via Makartsteg; next to the museum named “Haus der Natur“, start the Mönchberg Hill lift ride. From there, you’ll enjoy a wonderful view over the whole city of Salzburg, paired with a nice morning coffee at M32. Then descend to the Horse Well, along Hofstallgasse, past the world-renowned Festspielhaus with the “House for Mozart” and Felsenreitschule as well as Franciscan Church, Domplatz and Kapitelplatz squares. You have now reached the heart of Salzburg.

Our suggestion: lunch at a landmark of Salzburg

On the way to Hohensalzburg Fortress, a true landmark of Salzburg is waiting for you: the restaurant Stieglkeller. When the weather is fine, sit down in the garden to have a perfect view over the inner-city. We recommend choosing a traditional menu. Opt for Wiener schnitzel with parsley potatoes and a cool Salzburg Stiegl beer and order “Salzburger Nockerl” for dessert.

Sightseeing-to-go and delicious snacks by the wayside

After visiting the fortress, return to the historic center via Residenzplatz and Mozartplatz with its monumental Mozart statue. Via Judengasse, you reach Getreidegasse with Mozart’s birthplace and the numerous passages there. Many culinary highlights are waiting for you! If in the mood for some spicy food, make sure to stop by the “Balkan Grill“, the place where the bosna sausage originates from. If you have a sweet tooth, cross the Salzach again via Makartsteg and enjoy apple strudel at Café Bazar or Sacher Cake at Café Sacher with a view over the city. The Salzach boat “Amadeus“ will then take you to Hellbrunn Palace. At these splendid premises, you’ll find various shooting locations of “The Sound of Music“, the world-renowned musical that plays an important part at our hotel, too. Don’t miss the gazebo, the impressive stone theater and the trick fountains. Take the boat back to the historic center later in the afternoon.

Artists’ venue with local organic food: our suggestion

If you feel like taking a rest, take the bus from the city back to the hotel. But you may of course also head for dinner in one of our favorite venues. The Restaurant Triangel, a true artists’ venue, serves fresh organic food, creative veggie food, as well as traditional Austrian dishes.

After dinner enjoy a fantastic panoramic view over the city on the stone terrace with a nice cocktail. Afterwards, revelers will be spoilt for choice: around busy Anton-Neumayer-Platz, there are various trendy inns & clubs suitable for staying up all night.
